WhatistheDellChassisManagementController?
TheDellChassisManagementController(CMC)isasystemsmanagementhardwareandsoftwaresolutionformanagingmultipleDellbladechassis.TheCMC,whichisahot-pluggablemodulethatsitsinthebackofaDellbladeChassis,providesasecureweb/browserbasedinterfacethatenablesanITadministratortotakeinventory,performconfigurationandmonitoringtasks,remotepoweron/offbladesandenablealertsforeventsonserversandcomponentsinthebladechassis.
AsingleCMCinterfacewithmulti-chassismanagementcapability(whichwasintroducedinCMCversion3.1)canmanageupto9fullyloadedchassiswithnoadditionalcablingrequired.TheDellM1000echassis(picturedabove)hasslotsfortwo,redundantCMCmodules,sothatAdministratorscanstillconnecttothechassisevenifonefails.
TheCMCinterfaceintegrateswiththeiDRACmodule,souserscanperformiDRACfunctionssuchasopeningaremoteconsolesessionfromtheCMCinterface.
Additionally,theDellChassisManagementControllerallowsyoutobackupandclonesettingsontheChassis,andsave/applyBIOSprofilesforindividualbladeserverssothataddingnewbladesorchassistoyourenvironmentiseasierandmoreautomated.
YoucanalsocaptureacompleteChassisInventoryacrossallofyourchassisthatwillreturndetailedinformationonalloftheblades,IOmodules,iDRACcards,etcinyourenvironment.
