This article describes how the home vs. away configuration is determined by Endpoint Recovery.

How does Endpoint Recovery know when I'm Home vs. Away?

As you can infer, the network bandwidth can be configured to limit throughput on your endpoint device based on whether you are at home or away.  At Home and When Away settings are determined in the current product based on whether your device has the battery connected.  So quite simply, if your endpoint device is running solely on battery power, then your device is considered to be ‘Away’.   If your machine is using a conventional plug-in power source, then Endpoint Recovery considers this setting as ‘At Home’.

Endpoint Recovery does not currently allow for a checkbox/setting to disable backups if the user is ‘Away’, however this can be accomplished via a workaround:

  • In the Advanced section of the Advanced Settings page, Apply the ‘Stop Backup When battery is below __ % capacity checkbox, and use 100% as the battery capacity threshold.    So quite simply, the battery capacity will never be above 100%, so whenever the battery is the power source, no matter what capacity, the backups will not run with these specific settings.
