Satish Singh: hi folks

Satish Singh: how goes it

hypervfan: All good here, you?

Satish Singh: learning the nuances of Google Wear

hypervfan: Testing? Or reading?

Satish Singh: testing, received my moto360 yesterday so been breaking it in

MichaelD: Does it bend?

Satish Singh: lol, no, apparently it cracks though, so there's that

hypervfan: Just been reading about it. Looks nice, but battery life is an issue as I've read

Satish Singh: new update improved the battery life apparently

Satish Singh: I've had mine on since about 7:30 this morning, at 70% life now

Satish Singh: and I;ve had a lot of notifications and stuff going on

hypervfan: That's not too bad

Satish Singh: mike, re: cracking, the stock leather straps, if you don't have arnold schwarznegger wrists, can allow you to over tighten

Satish Singh: and since the bottom is more plastic for the Qi charging, it is a bit more fragile

Satish Singh: I got me the pebble steel band, so I'm all set

hypervfan: Will have to have at look at it at Dell World

MichaelD: I just don't really see the point in any of them, but then I don't wear any of the 3 watches I already own.

Satish Singh: if you get a lot of notifications on your phone, you don't have to pull it out each time, you can just use your watch

Satish Singh: I got it as a novelty item :)

Satish Singh: Hi sarah

Sarah Vela-Dell: howdy

MichaelD: G'day

hypervfan: One of the reasons I'm why I'm looking at getting one myself

Satish Singh: we have an unconference and I was there this morning for the keynotes

Satish Singh: most folks asked if I had the new iWatch

Satish Singh: or whatever they're calling it

hypervfan: hehe

Sarah Vela-Dell: um, that would be pretty interesting if you had that already ;)

Satish Singh: lol, yes

Satish Singh: I get it, I could be one of the awesome-sauce beta testers

Sarah Vela-Dell: like, WHO DO YOU KNOW AT APPLE, SATISH?

MichaelD: well someone is selling a prototype iPhone6 on ebay...bidding was nearly $100K this morning.

Satish Singh: you mean besides Tim Cook?

Satish Singh: ;)

Satish Singh: it's over 100k now? last I checked it was around 67k

Satish Singh: that's pretty epic, but with ebay auctions, sme folks just drive up the price with no intention to actually buy

Sarah Vela-Dell: I'll let them work out the kinks with Gen 1 (and maybe 2), then we'll see.

MichaelD: I'll wait till it's a neural implant, just hope they don't have bugs with those bricking during updates!

Satish Singh: where's the fun in that?

Sarah Vela-Dell: heh Michael

Satish Singh: michael, you mean an eyephone a la futurama?

MichaelD: I'll blindly say yes since I didn't watch that series

Satish Singh: recommended viewing :) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Attack_of_the_Killer_App

Sarah Vela-Dell: NERDS.

Satish Singh: well then... :)

Sarah Vela-Dell: Futurama's ok.

Sarah Vela-Dell: I think I have cartoon fatigue.

Satish Singh: futurama isn't a cartoon, it's a documentary on the world of the future, a documentary like Idiocracy

Sarah Vela-Dell: okie doke.

Sarah Vela-Dell: I do love Idiocracy

Satish Singh: hello luix

Satish Singh: I had a new-found affinity for electrolytes after that show

MichaelD: I think the cure for your cartoon burnout Sarah is a good dose of Thomas and Friends :)

Sarah Vela-Dell: oh good lord no.

Satish Singh: lol

Satish Singh: hello sri

Sarah Vela-Dell: you can't imagine how many episodes I've endured of that already.

MichaelD: Oh I can, my nephew is just a wee bit obsessed.

Sarah Vela-Dell: before I had kids I was a nanny for a year

Sarah Vela-Dell: so between those kids and my kids, I did about 10 straight years of Thomas viewing.

Satish Singh: you must know all about trains then

DELL-sri: can you hear me

Sarah Vela-Dell: oddly enough, just yesterday we were trying to remember all the names of the characters while we were driving to school.

MichaelD: Thomas is the cheeky one ;)

Satish Singh: hello susan

Satish Singh: howdy Joe

Joe: o/

Sarah Vela-Dell: don't tell any dirty jokes, doug

Satish Singh: \o

Joe: :)

Satish Singh: how are things my friend?

Satish Singh: fantasy football treating you good?

Joe: things are going fairly well all things considered.

MichaelD: So anything cool planned for Dell World?

Satish Singh: yep, I'll have a moto360, that should be THE happening event ;)

Satish Singh: howdy John

MichaelD: Everyone's gonna mob you like a bunch of teenage girls at a Bieber concert ;)

Satish Singh: I'm going to have to wear a "no, it's not an iWatch" t-shirt I think

Satish Singh: btw, Interstellar opens the same weekend

Satish Singh: week*

Satish Singh: and the Imax downtown has showings starting 8PM on Tuesday, the 4th of Nov

John A @ Dell: Satish, should I be able to hear people through the adobe meeting?

Sarah Vela-Dell: are we going?

Satish Singh: you wanna? I already have tix :D

Sarah Vela-Dell: oh I see how it is

MichaelD: he's too good for us

Sarah Vela-Dell: it's cool, it's cool.

Satish Singh: :(

MichaelD: Don't forget #vBBQ on Monday night - http://tweetvite.com/event/vbbqatx

hypervfan: Looking forward to the #vBBQ

Satish Singh: oh man

Satish Singh: ROAD TRIP

Sarah Vela-Dell: I love how Scott makes everyone drive to him.

MichaelD: I thought Scott was living in San Antonio now?

Satish Singh: "if you build it, they will come"

Sarah Vela-Dell: Scott is in Driftwood

Sarah Vela-Dell: but they're about to move to the coast.

Satish Singh: he must go to Pieous a lot

Satish Singh: I love that place

Sarah Vela-Dell: Janina's aunt had a place in Galveston that they're taking over.

MichaelD: Ah

Satish Singh: galveston?

Satish Singh: nice

Sarah Vela-Dell: I think it was Galveston. somewhere over there.

Satish Singh: other than the hurricanes and the GIANT mosquito's

Sarah Vela-Dell: this house has apparently survived every hurricane since, I don't know, 1901 or something

Satish Singh: that is pretty epic

John A @ Dell: Satish, make me a presenter, pls

Satish Singh: you and david are all set

Satish Singh: a long adventure, involving many a headset

Satish Singh: intersting, Check doesn't say supports Android Wear, and yet I got a notification

Satish Singh: this could be fun

Sarah Vela-Dell: didier!

Didier Van Hoye: Hi Sarah!

Sarah Vela-Dell: My tweets bring all the boys to the yard. ;)

Satish Singh: welcome folks :)

hypervfan: Hi Didier

Didier Van Hoye: Hey, how are things

Satish Singh: I should just let you do all the tweets next time

Sarah Vela-Dell: lulz

Didier Van Hoye: I have my first G13 servers on the way ...

Sarah Vela-Dell: very cool!

Satish Singh: get your questions ready for the smart folks presenting, ask away

Daniel_Bowers: Is there a ordering code / flag to have the server factory-configured for iDRAC auto-configuration?

John A @ Dell: yes

John A @ Dell: Daniel, let me get the details for the ordering options. One minute, pls

Daniel_Bowers: @John Don't bother about details, I was just curious.

Satish Singh: www.delltechcenter.com/lc

Daniel_Bowers: Are configuration profiles unique to each model?  I.e. a R730 xml file would have different fields than R720 xml file.

David@Dell: @Daniel, you can certainly create a profile that applies to two generations (R730 and R720)

David@Dell: However...

Daniel_Bowers: ...follow up: Is there an example XML file on dell.com somewhere?  (I haven't looked so sorry)

David@Dell: They are not identical as we introduce new features/functionality with new generations.  Those new features have configurable settings that would appear in the profile

David@Dell: But you can create the lowest common denominator profile

David@Dell: and then follow up with a second profile that is specific to that model

John A @ Dell: Daniel, it's in the "Systems Management Upgrades" section if you're ordering online

Daniel_Bowers: Is "A to A" a kind of USB crossover cable? Or something more bizarre?

David@Dell: Sort of.

David@Dell: Not that bizarre though.

David@Dell: You can find them at Frys, and online

Daniel_Bowers: Are drivers for this on the iDRAC?  Or Do you install the driver son the laptop first?

David@Dell: Type A is the kind that goes into your notebook

David@Dell: Windows will auto-download the driver

Daniel_Bowers: @David - Fry's, I love that place.  Dangerous to go there.

David@Dell: Consider this an excuse to go to Frys :-)

David@Dell: @Daniel, here is the link to a profile whitepaper.

David@Dell: http://en.community.dell.com/techcenter/extras/m/white_papers/20440234.aspx

David@Dell: There are more at delltechcenter.com/lc -> Whitepapers

Daniel_Bowers: Do this with Bluetooth :)

Didier Van Hoye: Will this  move to ither platforms than Android?

Satish Singh: I think the iPhone 6 supports NFC now as well, but not sure if they have opened it up to anything other than Apple Pay at the moment

Daniel_Bowers: What does "OMM" mean?

Satish Singh: I am sure the smart folks can chime in on it

MichaelD: Will the NFC functionality be coming to 13g servers aside from the R series?

David@Dell: Open Manage Mobile

MichaelD: iPhone6 NFC is Apple Pay only at the moment

David@Dell: @MichaelD, no plans at this moment

Daniel_Bowers: "NFC enabled smartphone"...Is that a hardware dongle/piece to get NFC on Android, or do some devices have that embedded?

David@Dell: @Daniel, many smart phones have NFC built in

Daniel_Bowers: Any idea how much the NFC-enabled bezel costs?

Daniel_Bowers: @David Dang, time to upgrade from my Motorola startac flip-phone  :)

David@Dell: @Daniel, the bezel is $150

Daniel_Bowers: startac

David@Dell: But it's so thin!

MichaelD: @David, shame. it sounds like a cool feature but we're moving away from the R series.

David@Dell: @Michael, there are plenty of other cool features with our M and T series

David@Dell: What are you moving to?

MichaelD: M series

Daniel_Bowers: Is the bezel associated with a specific server?  That is, does the bezel have to be factory programmed to match a specific server serial number or something?

David@Dell: Well...our blades are great.  you can always use Auto Config with DHCP

MichaelD: Between the blades & virtualization we're nearly down to 2 racks for all our servers versus 9 a couple years ago

Sarah Vela-Dell: so will you be ordering 13G blades, Michael?

Daniel_Bowers: @David thanks for answer.

Daniel_Bowers: Aha, 'stateless' bezel answered the rest of my question.  Thanks.

MichaelD: No current plans, we just expanded our VMware environment this summer. But if our VDI project grows faster than expected we'll be adding some.

Daniel_Bowers: Through QuickSync, you can change iDRAC networking settings?

David@Dell: Yes

Sarah Vela-Dell: cool.

Sarah Vela-Dell: keep me posted, would be nice to follow up with a case study if you're game :)

David@Dell: That's the best use case, @Daniel: Use quick sync to assign your initial iDRAC network settings and boot order

David@Dell: then go back to your desk and complete your server deployment using iDRAC

Daniel_Bowers: @David Cool.  I'd assumed QuickSync was "read-only".

DELL-sri: the write capabilities are limited at this point to network configuration

Daniel_Bowers: Wait go back to that screen

Didier Van Hoye: I'll have hands on with R730 soon

Didier Van Hoye: looking forward to it :-)

Sarah Vela-Dell: did you order quick sync enabled, Didier?

Didier Van Hoye: Yes

Didier Van Hoye: Now I need to get a smart phone :-)

Sarah Vela-Dell: coolness. would love to have you write up the experience.

Sarah Vela-Dell: :)

MichaelD: @Sarah I'm game, not sure if the higher ups would be.

DELL-sri: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dell.omm&hl=en

DELL-sri: link to OpenManage MObile app

Sarah Vela-Dell: gotcha, Michael. we can talk it over offline. :)

DELL-sri: delltechcenter,com/omm

Daniel_Bowers: Thanks for putting that back, just wanted to see...

Daniel_Bowers: What's DTK?

DELL-sri: DTK is the scripting tool kit used for server configuration

Didier Van Hoye: I'll be sure to share some experiences with the new iDRAC/Quick Synch

Daniel_Bowers: Did you say HDD firmware can't be updated via iDRAC?  Just curious, why?

Daniel_Bowers: @sri thanks

Sarah Vela-Dell: Didier, that would be great

Didier Van Hoye: But also so Windows vNext

Didier Van Hoye: O disk firmware

Didier Van Hoye: One of the most anoying things today

Didier Van Hoye: is that on most oru our serversb the HDD DUPs fail ...

Didier Van Hoye: We really need a more realiable way of deploying HDD firmware that works remotely

Daniel_Bowers: @Didier Interesting

MichaelD: Remote console to install ESXi and honestly after that I don't touch the iDRAC except for troubleshooting/updating firmwares.

Didier Van Hoye: and doesnt require booting into an ISO to get the job done

Didier Van Hoye: Still hear you

Daniel_Bowers: Unrelated to the iDRAC Direct / QuickSync, I heard elsewhere someone say that you could monitor CPU utilization via iDRAC.  Any truth to that?  I don't have a 13G on-hand :(

MichaelD: One issue I've seen recently, and it could be me needing to update iDRAC firmware, is not being able to launch the remote console over IPv6 through the CMC.  The link is grayed out, but it works fine going to the IPv6 address directly.

Rick - Dell: yes that is supported on 13G

Daniel_Bowers: is iDRAC gathering info from code running on the CPU (like SMM or some BIOS code) to get memory & I/O utilization?

Daniel_Bowers: (Just curious, I suppose the "how" really doesn't matter)

David@Dell: @Daniel, we are working through a specific Intel interface that they added to this latest chipset

Daniel_Bowers: OK thanks for answer

Sarah Vela-Dell: Thanks for joining everyone

Daniel_Bowers: Thanks all @ Dell for taking the time to do this

Didier Van Hoye: Thx!

Sarah Vela-Dell: good to see y'all

MichaelD: Thanks all

Daniel_Bowers: Good lukc @Didier!

David@Dell: Thanks everyone!

Daniel_Bowers: luck

Satish Singh: Have a great afternoon all.

Didier Van Hoye: Thx Daniel

Didier Van Hoye: will be fun

Didier Van Hoye: bye bye

Justin: .

Dewin: Click a link in Spiceworks that goes to Twitter that goes to Dell's community site that goes to Adobe Connect.  That could have been a few hoops less ;)

Dewin: Also, apparently I'm responding to something that was yesterday, so it's moot.
