Active Fabric Controller Overview

Dell Active Fabric Controller is a purpose-built software-defined networking platform designed to simply and securely configure and deploy networking functionality in cloud/XaaS environments.

Active Fabric Controller takes a clean break from legacy networking and delivers a modern approach, built from the ground-up to simplify & accelerate application, infrastructure and operational transformation. While traditional networking solutions cannot deliver critical capabilities needed for modern applications & private cloud deployments, Software-defined networking has emerged as a potentially transformative new technology for networking, however to date SDN solutions have been complex, cumbersome & confusing.

AFC takes a different approach, leveraging advances in SDN to profoundly simplify data center operations. AFC leverages OpenFlow and advanced SDN features to deliver zero-touch deployment for the fabric such that no operator intervention is required - simply rack, cable, power-on, and the fabric comes to life. AFC also offers network, endpoint, and policy abstractions, together with a simple GUI & comprehensive API. This enables OpenStack applications to program the network to meet workload needs, and for developers and private-cloud administrators to have simplified visibility & comprehensive programmatic control of the access fabric.
